Starting in August 2026, Alliance for Community Empowerment will be working with the Department of Social Services to distribute a one-time $300 grocery card to Connecticut HR1 impacted Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs). If you believe you have lost your SNAP benefit due to HR1 work requirements, please contact us in August to see if you are eligible.

``Participating in the financial wellness class has significantly enhanced my understanding of saving, budgeting, and planning for my children's future. As my children are autistic, I often find myself purchasing new clothing and shoes for them. This program has made me realize that I was the source of my financial challenges, as I had not been setting aside funds for unforeseen emergencies. I previously believed I needed to conform to the fashion choices of others. The lessons I received emphasized the importance of saving for unexpected situations. As a mother, I have begun to implement these principles with my children. At times, I found myself more enthusiastic about acquiring the latest Jordans or Nikes. However, since enrolling in the Financial Wellness program, I have gained valuable insights into saving. Although I still face challenges in this area, the guidance from the class and its coaches assures me that I can improve my financial situation for both myself and my children. With the support of the Financial Wellness program, I have noticed a positive change in my spending habits. I have become more mindful of my expenditures; for instance, when I was about to purchase Jordans for my daughter, I reconsidered and opted for a pair of Minnie Mouse shoes instead. She adores Minnie Mouse and takes better care of those shoes than the Jordans she owns. Ultimately, it was about my happiness in making a more thoughtful choice.``
