Annual Report Celebration 400 400 Alliance for Community Empowerment

In celebration of 55 years of service, ABCD held its annual meeting at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut. At the event, several community service awardees were honored and dozens of high school students were awarded college scholarships. Mayor Joseph P. Ganim of the City of Bridgeport was present for opening remarks as well as keynote speaker Juanita T. James, President & CEO of Fairfield County’s Community Foundation.

To kick off the celebration, former scholarship recipient Chasity Kennedy sang a beautiful solo to all in attendance. After receiving a standing ovation, community service awards were handed out. The community service awardees included Senator Bob Duff, Jennifer E. Kolakowski, Gina LeVon Simpson, and John Torres. Pas scholar honoree remarks were given by Adia Johnson and Tennis Davis. Also present to deliver college scholarships to students was Dr. Aresta Johnson, Superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools and Folson Almezy, VP Branch Manager of People’s United Bank. Final remarks were given by ABCD Board Chairperson Laurel Gross and ABCD Executive Director Dr. Monette Ferguson. Finally, dinner was served with Master of Ceremony Dr. Lindsay E. Curtis offering his benediction and blessing of the food.

College scholarship awardees included; Aija Andrews, Keshaun Barnes, Richard Edwards, Safa El-mouwfi, Zachary Evans, Matthew Ffrench, Elijah Fraser, Paola Gonzalez, Jasmin Guevara, M’kiah Janvier, Katja Jarozewski, Lila Jarozewski, Chavez Johnson, Diamond Johnson, Kiana Johnson, Kh’ayla Jones, Tamanna Khanam, Leea Lindsey, Genesis Madu, Alyssa Mann, Zara Maxwell, Semhar Mehrtab, Daniel Mundle, Shaila Nesmith, Queenasia Pierce, Kobi Spence, and Hana Sumra.
