Tuesday, February 15, 2022 – Westport, CT – Alliance for Community Empowerment, a local Community Action Agency, recently raised more than $100,000 at the 2nd annual Love Our Community event in Westport at the Inn at Longshore. On Friday, February 11, 2022, the event with dignitaries such as Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling continued a tradition that was put on hold last year because of the pandemic. Alliance staff, community partners, and supporters all came together to celebrate the important charitable activities of the non-profit the last couple of years since the first Love Our Community event which took place in February 2020, just weeks before the start of quarantine.

The sold-out event featured a red-carpet experience, silent auction, dancing to the sounds of The Rahsaan Langley Project, and a video presentation, all to support the important work Alliance for Community Empowerment offers across Fairfield County. Around 200 guests came dressed up and ready to support the cause and have a good time.

“Dr. Monette Ferguson, Alliance’s Executive Director, started the event with a moment of silence for those lost during the pandemic, followed by a thank you to Alliance’s community partners. “I can look across the room and see the partners that have locked arms with Alliance during some of the most difficult times in the entire world,” said Dr. Ferguson. “Thank you for being partners with an organization that has stood 60 years for those who do not have a voice.”

Attention was then turned to a video showcasing clients and staff of Alliance describing the positive impact the organization has had on their lives, families, and their communities. The video touched on clients of Early Learning, Energy Assistance, and the various Supportive Services provided throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Following the video, Alliance Board Chair, Sharon Skyers-Jenkins took the stage to speak on the importance of Alliance’s community initiatives. “Because of this fundraiser tonight, we can move forward with programs to help children and families that are most marginalized,” said Skyers-Jenkins. “This work must continue!”

From then on, The Rahsaan Langley Project took to the stage and started setting the tone for a night full of dancing.

If you were unable to attend but would like to donate to Alliance for Community Empowerment, Giving Day 2022 is coming up on February 22nd. More info on that here: Alliance Giving Day 2022 Facebook Event
